King Tchiffi Zie Jean Gervais of Cote d’ Voire,  Permanent Secretary General of the Forum of Kings, Princes, Sheiks and Traditional Leaders of Africa paid a working visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg last week. In course of the visit, the King Tchiffi Zie was received by Mr. David Foka, President of President of the Federation of African Associations of Luxembourg ( FAAL), at Maison d’ Afrique, Luxembourg. In course of his visit to the ‘Maison’, the Royal Father gave a brief presentation of the programs of the continent’s Forum of Kings. In a question and answer session he presided over, the King Tchiffi Zie explained various initiatives of the Forum aimed at fostering socio-cultural co-operation, enhancing economic development and collaboration within and between various African communities. This according to him will be realised through conscious efforts at strengthening the  pillars and values  of traditional Africa.

While of the view that traditional leader should be above partisan politics and therefore must avoid active involvement in politics, nonetheless affirmed that African traditional institutions are not at variance to the operation and ends of democratic culture. He stressed that ills afflicting communities across Africa, such as poverty, illegal migration and its consequence, political instability and insecurity could be addressed and managed through time tested understandings and methods that constitute often ignored cultural heritages of African societies at large.

Among its other “important projects” the Forum of Kings, Princes, Sheiks and Traditional Leaders is has voiced its support for the recognition of Africans living in Diaspora worldwide, as “complete citizens of Africa” by birth. In this regard, the Forum will present an initiative aimed at granting of travelling documents to Africans in Diaspora,  before the Africa Union (AU)  Council of Foreign Ministers and subsequently, concave of Heads of States and Government. As envisaged, the documents will enable Africans temporarily or permanently resident in Diaspora to travel without constraint around Africa.

The Forum of African Kings, Sultans, Princes, Sheikhs and Traditional Chiefs was established in August 2008 in Benghazi (Libya). Its headquarters are in Sirte, Libya. The Forum took off with an inaugural budget of one million dollars in 2009, with the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, as its inaugural “Guide of the Great”. Since his assassination at the hands of French and Anglo-American supported “rebels”, activities of the Forum has remained “low key”, until now.
