Travel & Tours / Friday, 02 February 2018 17:05

Morocco expects half a million Chinese tourists annually, with the opening of direct flights between the country and China. According to reports released by Morocco’s Ministry and the National Tourism Office, a plan has been commissioned by the Ministry to  promote  Morocco as a foremost tourist destination in China. As part of the plan, negotiation between Moroccan and Chinese aviation authorities aimed at facilitating the opening of direct flight operations between the Kingdom and China is underway. Ongoing discussions involving Royal Air Maroc and three Chinese air carriers  was given a boost recently, by assurances from the highest level of political authorities in both countries, indicating official support for the plans. Various initiatives aimed at promoting Moroccan destination packages  in Chinese websites have been launched by companies operating destination packages in Morocco and Chinese. In reflection of the new spirit of Sino-Moroccan cooperation in culture and tourism, among others, Morocco recently waived all visa requirements for Chinese citizens intending to visit the Kingdom.
This development encouraged an unprecedented surge in the number of Chinese tourists received in Morocco. From a mere 10,000 Chinese tourists that visited the Kingdom prior to cancellation of visa requirement, the Kingdom welcomes 100,000 tourists from the Chinese mainland last year.

From January 31 to February 3, Casablanca will host the activities of the Morocco-China Tourism Cooperation Forum, initiated by the National Office for Tourism and Partnership with the World Federation of Tourist Cities. The forum was attended by 200 tour operators from Morocco and China.
